coldplay – swallowed in the sea
there are already about four versions of this song on here and no one’s
gotten it quite right yet!!! here’s how it’s played .
tuning :
– D# –
– B –
– G –
– D –
– A –
– E –
standard tuning with high E 1/2 step down . ( same tuning as another
coldplay song , “yellow” )
i’ve tabbed the chord fingerings first . the progression is after .
play the sixth string with your thumb . otherwise it’s much harder
to fret the minor chords .
aside from the thumb fingerings on the sixth string , the major chords
are usually played with the 2nd , 3rd , and 4th fingers . you can play
them with the 1st , 2nd , and 3rd however . minor chords use thumb , 1st , 3rd , and 4th
fingers .
chords : ( remember the high E [ first string ] is tune one half
step down to D# . the other 5 strings are standard tuning )
B : – 0 – F# : – 0 – E : – 0 – G#m : – 0 – C#m : – 0 –
– 0 – – 0 – – 0 – – 0 – – 0 –
– 8 – – 3 – – 1 – – 4 – – 9 –
– 9 – – 4 – – 2 – – 6 – – 11 –
– 9 – – 4 – – 2 – – 6 – – 11 –
– 7 – – 2 – – 0 – – 4 – – 9 –
play around with these chords , then you can start putting together the song . it’s
actually quite easy!!!
first verse on the album version is only vocals and synthesizer , but this is the
progression he plays on the acoustic guitar version .
( quietly )
B F# E B
you cut me down a tree and brought it back to me
F# E E B
and that’s what made me see where i was going wrong
B F# E B
you put me on a shelf and kept me for yourself
F# E E B
i can only blame myself you can only blame me
E B G#m F#
and i could write a song a hundred miles long
E B B F#
well , that’s where i belong and you belong with me
E B G#m F#
and i could write it down or spread it all around
E B B F# B
get lost and then get found or swallowed in the sea . . . . . . . . . . . .
( louder )
B F# E B
you put me on a line and hung me out to dry
F# E E B
and darling that’s when i decided to go to see you
B F# E B
you cut me down to size and opened up my eyes
F# E E B
made me realize what i could not see
E B G#m F#
and i could write a book the one they’ll say that shook
E B B F#
the world , and then it took it took it back from me
E B G#m F#
and i could write it down or spread it all around
E B B F#
get lost and then get found and you’ll come back to me
E B
not swallowed in the sea
bridge : ( C#m E B F# ) x4
* ( the rest of the chords are basically just a repeat of the
earlier progression )
E B G#m F#
and i could write a song a hundred miles long
E B B F#
well , that’s where i belong and you belong with me
E B G#m F#
the streets you’re walking on a thousand houses long
E B B F#
well , that’s where i belong and you belong with me
E B G#m F#
oh what good is it to live with nothing left to give ,
E B B F#
forget but not forgive , not loving all you see?
E B G#m F#
oh the streets you’re walking on a thousand houses long
E B B F#
well that’s where i belong and you belong with me
E B
not swallowed in the sea
G#m F# E B
you belong with me not swallowed in the sea
G#m F# E B
